RJC: CNN Poll Confirms "Israel Gap" - More Republicans Support Israel Than Democrats

A new CNN poll asked Americans for their opinion of Israel's action against Hamas in Gaza.

The results demonstrated the "Israel Gap" between Republicans and Democrats: "Forty-five percent of Democrats questioned said that Israeli's military actions in Gaza are justified. That number jumps to 56% among independents and 73% among Republicans."

The poll showed overall that "57% of the public said the Israeli actions against Hamas, the Palestinian organization that runs Gaza, are justified, with just over a third saying they are unjustified."

RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks commented, "At a time when Israel is clearly engaged in an existential conflict, fighting for its right to exist, it is disappointing that Democrats in this country do not share the same high level of support for Israel that is seen among Republicans. Bipartisan support for Israel - among officials and at the grassroots - is vital to the strong U.S.-Israel alliance that is so important to both countries."
