RJC Applauds Government Reopening, Democrats Should Be Ashamed for Holding America Hostage for 43 Days

Washington, DC – The Republican Jewish Coalition responded to the reopening of the federal government. RJC CEO Matt Brooks said:

Democrats in the US Senate held America hostage for 43 days by rejecting the clean continuing resolution passed in the House weeks ago to extend funding for the federal government. More than a million federal workers have been furloughed or have been working without pay during the shutdown.

The men and women who serve this country deserve better, and so do American taxpayers.

Thousands of flights have been canceled and travel snarled because of inadequate security and air traffic controller staff; SNAP benefits for families have been delayed; small business loan processing has been frozen. The shutdown has impacted the lives of millions of Americans.

Democrats have been responsible for this shutdown from day one. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries both continue to oppose re-opening the government. Thankfully, eight Senate Democrats finally accepted a deal they could have made weeks ago and spared American families the stress, frustration, and suffering their shutdown caused.

Democrats should be ashamed of causing this sorry mess. The voters will remember it in next year's midterm elections.
