Ties to Anti-Semitic Leader Should Not Be Tolerated

Washington D.C. (March 6, 2018) -- Today, in the wake of the news that seven members of Congress are connected to known anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, the RJC released the following statement from Executive Director Matt Brooks:

Seven long-serving Democrats have close ties with Louis Farrakhan. Each of them should resign.

They include former Nation of Islam employee, Congressman Keith Ellison, who is Deputy Chair of the DNC. Ellison has tried to excuse his 2013 meeting with Farrakhan, while ignoring his more recent meeting with the NOI leader in Farrakhan’s hotel room, in 2015. At least six other Democrats are known to have embraced Farrakhan. These members of Congress - Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee, Danny Davis, Andre Carson, Gregory Meeks, and Al Green - have all, while in office, sat down with Farrakhan for personal meetings.

There can be no question about how abhorrent it is for these Democrats to be connected to Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan is first and foremost a preacher of hate. He preaches about Jewish “control” over the government and media and has claimed to have “pulled a cover off of that Satanic Jew,” saying “your time is up, your world is through.” And those were just the comments from last week.

Anti-Semitism is unacceptable. Farrakhan is the moral equivalent of a leader of the KKK. If it was discovered that members of Congress had met with the leader of the KKK, they would need to resign. In this case, for meeting with, and embracing, Louis Farrakhan, nothing short of resignation is acceptable from these seven Democrats.

Washington, D.C. (February 13, 2018) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition responded today to a report that Democrat congressional candidate Conor Lamb, who is running in the special election in Pennsylvania’s 18th district, accused the government of Israel of "terrorism" and of targeting Palestinian women and children during the Second Intifada in 2002.

A new Pew poll shows the sharp partisan divide in sympathies for Israel or the Palestinians, with Republican support for Israel soaring while Democrat support continues to wane.

Washington, D.C. (January 23, 2018) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition released the following statement from Executive Director Matt Brooks on the news that John Kerry is trying to obstruct the Trump Administration’s efforts to facilitate an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, by encouraging PA President Mahmoud Abbas to reject the Trump Administration’s efforts and wait until Trump is out of office.

Washington, D.C. (January 23, 2018) -- The Pew Research Center reported today that: “The partisan divide in Middle East sympathies, for Israel or the Palestinians, is now wider than at any point since 1978. Currently, 79% of Republicans say they sympathize more with Israel than the Palestinians, compared with just 27% of Democrats.”

(January 8, 2018) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition released statements from National Chairman Norm Coleman and Executive Director Matt Brooks tonight, to express the organization’s thanks and appreciation to Congressman Ed Royce on the announcement of his retirement at the end of his current term.

Washington D.C. (January 3, 2018) -- Iran has seen a week of anti-government protests, in which more than 20 people have been killed and 450 arrested. The unrest began with small protests over economic issues in one city, but quickly expanded into mass protests across the country calling for political change.
 
When Iranians took to the streets in 2009, the Obama administration did not respond. President Trump and his administration, along with leading Republican legislators, are speaking out in support of the protesters this time. The RJC thanks President Trump for his leadership in supporting the Iranian people.

Washington D.C. (December 22, 2017) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition condemned the vote in the UN General Assembly yesterday on a non-binding resolution declaring “null and void” the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move our embassy there.

(December 18, 2017) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition released a statement today to applaud the U.S. veto of a United Nations Security Council resolution attempting to nullify U.S. policy recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the intention to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.
