RJC to Dem House Leaders: Remove Omar from Foreign Affairs Committee, Bring Up HR 72

The Republican Jewish Coalition today called on Democratic House leaders to respond to anti-Semitic comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar on Twitter yesterday.

RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said:

Rep. Omar’s suggestion that congressional support for Israel is about money brings a vile anti-Semitic stereotype into the partisan politics of our day. Omar says she opposes Israel, not Jews, but her use of anti-Semitic tropes in her anti-Israel comments plainly shows where she stands. This language and this hatred have no place in the halls of the US Congress.

We call on the Democratic House leadership to strip Rep. Omar of her seat on the prestigious and crucially important House Foreign Affairs Committee. Rep. Omar has demonstrated her unfitness for a seat on the committee that considers legislation regarding US policy toward Israel and the Middle East.

We also call on Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House leaders to bring up for consideration H.Res. 72, the resolution introduced by Rep. Lee Zeldin on “Rejecting anti-Israel and anti-Semitic hatred in the United States and around the world.” That resolution calls out by name individuals expressing anti-Israel and anti-Semitic hatred, including Louis Farrakhan, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Ilhan Omar, and white supremacist Robert Bowers. This resolution should quickly be brought to a House vote, so that the American people can see where their elected representatives stand: for anti-Semitism or against it.
