Statement on President Trump's Decision to Not Certify the Iran Nuclear Deal

Washington, D.C.— The RJC released the following statement from Executive Director Matt Brooks:

Today President Trump, by declining to certify that Iran is complying with the nuclear deal negotiated by President Obama, took an important first step delivering on one of his biggest campaign promises and bolstering the security of the United States, Israel, and our allies.

The cornerstone of the Obama foreign policy, the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) failed from the start. It gave Iran 100 billion dollars in sanctions relief, without guaranteeing complete and total inspections of military sites. The deal fails in its chief goal: blocking Iran’s path to nuclear weapons. Today’s decision is about creating a real and meaningful way forward in stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions and working towards creating a lasting peace in the Middle East.

The RJC stands strongly behind President Trump’s decision, and looks forward to working with the Administration and leaders in Congress to advance a new policy that effectively confronts the nuclear threat from Iran.
