Biden Administration’s Mideast Priority Isn’t Israel

News reports this week highlight two decisions by the Biden administration that demonstrate where its priorities lie – and they’re not with Israel.

Adam Kredo reports at the Washington Free Beacon:

The State Department deleted references to the Palestinian government’s terror incitement in a report sent last week to Congress, highlighting what some see as an effort by the Biden administration to downplay Palestinian violence as it restarts U.S. taxpayer aid to the government.

…The Free Beacon obtained copies of both reports and found the Biden administration deleted information about terror incitement and Palestinian support for the BDS movement. The State Department declined to comment on the changes.

… In the latest report, the Biden State Department removed a section of text detailing how Palestinian schools and media outlets routinely employ violent rhetoric... Another portion on the Arab League’s boycotts of Israel omits an entire paragraph detailing how the Palestinian government is undermining regional peace with Israel.

Also this week, Israel’s Globes newspaper reported that the Biden administration is freezing the Abraham Fund indefinitely. The fund, established by the US, Israel and the UAE, is intended to inject more than $3 billion into private sector investments to promote economic cooperation and prosperity in the Middle East.

According to the Globes report, not only has the Biden administration not appointed a new director to head the fund, but both US and Israeli officials are saying that the fund is off the US agenda for now. Reports in the US say that one reason for the freeze is the huge US government expenditures on Covid-19 economic relief.

RJC in the News

•  Hundreds to rally outside US Capitol to protest antisemitism

A diverse group of people will flock to the US Capitol in Washington on July 11 for a rally held in solidarity with the Jewish people amid rising antisemitism worldwide. Among the speakers attending will be Elisha Wiesel, son of Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel; former US senator and Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) chairman Norm Coleman… [The RJC is a co-sponsor of this event. See below for details.]

Terry McAuliffe touts endorsement from anti-Israel group

Republican Jewish Coalition communications director Neil Strauss said McAuliffe's welcoming of Emgage's endorsement reflects the Democratic Party's leftward shift on Israel. "When even [McAuliffe] is touting the endorsement of a pro-BDS group, can there really be any doubt that the Democratic Party is the party of the BDS movement?" Strauss asked.

Hamas is abusing children, and the world is complicit

David M. Litman criticizes the UN and Human Rights Watch, among others, for their silence while Palestinian children as young as 10-years old in Gaza spend their summer learning how to shoot weapons, “fight the Israeli occupation,” and “become a martyr and go to heaven.”

Condemning antisemitism can get you canceled

RJC Leader Melissa Braunstein looks at the case of April Powers, a black Jew, who lost her job as the chief equity and inclusion officer for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) after posting on social media about the rise in hate speech and violence against Jewish people in the US.

The unspoken purpose of the academic boycott

Middle East scholar Martin Kramer writes, in an academic paper for the journal Israel Affairs: “The academic boycott of Israel is actually meant to isolate and stigmatise Jewish academics in America. It serves the aim of pushing Jewish academics out of shrinking disciplines, where Jews are believed to be ‘over-represented.’”

Who’s lying about critical race theory?

Jonathan Tobin writes: “CRT is bad for all Americans, but Jews should be particularly aware of the dangers it presents. That’s especially true with prominent political advocates of “equity” and intersectionality like Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) — becoming not merely the most visible voices advocating anti-Semitic ideas but also given a kosher seal of approval by the Democratic Party and left-wing Jews and their organizations.”
