Americans Killed, Many Wounded at Kabul Airport

The news from Afghanistan is only getting worse.

• At least a dozen US servicemen were killed and 15 wounded in two suicide bombing attacks at Kabul airport today; dozens of civilians were killed and more than a hundred people are reported wounded.

• There are thousands of American citizens, US green card holders, and Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants who are stranded in Afghanistan. They are on the Taliban’s murder list (and their names were given to the Taliban by US officials). They are unable to get through Taliban checkpoints and desperate crowds to reach outbound US flights from Kabul airport.

It’s a horror show that may become only more terrible in the days ahead. We pray for comfort for the grieving, healing for the wounded, rescue for those in danger, and safety for our military forces in harm’s way.

The Washington Free Beacon reports that Republicans in Congress are calling for the Pentagon’s inspector general to launch a formal investigation of the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Rep. Carlos Giménez (R-FL), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, is spearheading legislation that would direct the Defense Department's inspector general to determine how the Biden administration's pullout from Afghanistan endangered scores of American citizens who are trapped in Taliban-controlled Kabul and begging for rescue by US forces.

Giménez's bill is the first in what is likely to be a series of Republican efforts to investigate the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan… It is likely that Democrats will be forced to go along with these investigations, even as party leaders defend the Biden administration's decisions.

Rep. Giménez is endorsed by the RJC PAC for reelection in 2022. Learn more about him here.
