RJC in the News

Multiple Pennsylvania, national, and Jewish news outlets have picked up the RJC's statement about Pennsylvania GOP gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano's relationship with Gab, the social media platform.

The statement from RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks read:

"Instead of welcoming all Pennsylvanians who have concerns about Josh Shapiro’s big government agenda, Doug Mastriano’s campaign unfortunately seems intent on sending a message of exclusion. Jewish voters expect candidates to condemn antisemitism whether it comes from the far left or the far right – and to shun those who espouse it. We strongly urge Doug Mastriano to end his association with Gab, a social network rightly seen by Jewish Americans as a cesspool of bigotry and antisemitism.'

JTA notes:

The Republican Jewish Coalition has spoken out against candidates who embrace extremist views in the past, such as when Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar spoke at a conference of white nationalists in February.

The coalition joins a broad array of groups and individuals denouncing Mastriano, who won the Republican primary in May after receiving support from Democrats who believed he would be easier to defeat than his more moderate rival. He is still seen as a long shot in November’s election but has been climbing in the polls against Josh Shapiro, the Jewish Democrat who is currently Pennsylvania’s attorney general.

UN Official Investigating Israel: ‘Jewish Lobby’ Controls Social Media

Miloon Kothari, a United Nations human-rights investigator who is one of three members of the “UN Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in Israel,” showed his bias against Israel in an interview with Mondoweiss, an anti-Israel blog. Kothari said that a Jewish lobby controls social media, that "apartheid" isn't a strong enough word for what Israel does, and that Israel should not be a member of the United Nations.

In northern West Bank, gunmen, not PA, call the shots

Khaled Abu Toameh writes: "The Palestinian Authority is rapidly losing control of the northern West Bank, where hundreds of gunmen belonging to the ruling Fatah faction and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) have increased their presence and activities in recent months.

"… The presence of the gunmen on the streets in the Nablus and Jenin areas underscores the weakness of the PA, whose leaders are aware that there’s little they can do to disarm the armed groups and individuals.

“"The Palestinian public, meanwhile, continues to view the gunmen as “heroes” who are ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause. They are regarded as the defenders of the people, while the PA leaders and security forces are denounced as corrupt “traitors” and “collaborators” with Israel."
