RJC in the News

The Hill reported yesterday:

The CEO of the Republican Jewish Coalition blasted an "offensive" tweet from the Michigan State Republican Party on Wednesday that used a photo from the Holocaust to criticize gun safety efforts.

"This tweet by @MIGOP is absolutely inappropriate and offensive and should be taken down immediately," Republican Jewish Coalition CEO Matt Brooks wrote on Twitter.

The Michigan Republican Party’s official Twitter account posted a photo Wednesday morning with the text "before they collected all these wedding rings… they collected all the guns." The image in the post is a photo from 1945 of wedding rings removed from victims of the Holocaust, according to the National Archives.

The RJC has a long-standing policy of calling out both Democrats and Republicans who use Holocaust imagery or rhetoric to score points in the American political arena, because doing so trivializes a uniquely horrific episode in history. The memory of six million victims of Nazi genocide should be honored, not used as a weapon in the political fray.

Haley: China Wins if Russia Conquers Ukraine

Nikki Haley, in an op-ed at the Wall Street Journal writes:

This week’s meeting in Moscow between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin is the latest proof that China is Russia’s best friend and biggest backer. Everyone knows it, yet President Biden and some Republicans are failing to realize a corresponding truth: If Russia wins in Ukraine, China wins too.

Beijing has set its sights on overtaking the U.S. militarily, economically and culturally. Mr. Xi is in Moscow because supporting Mr. Putin advances his dark vision. He wants Russia to conquer Ukraine so it’s easier for China to invade Taiwan. He wants Russia to threaten the rest of Europe because it draws America’s attention from Asia.

…As ambassador to the United Nations, I saw that when America stands strong, our enemies step back. We need to stand strong with our friends in Kyiv, not least because their victory over Russia would have effects extending far beyond Ukraine.

Biden Silent When Terrorism in Israel Affects Americans

Last Sunday, an American-Israeli former US Marine was seriously injured in a terrorist attack in Huwara, a Palestinian village in the West Bank. David Stern was driving through the village with his wife when gunman shot at their car. Stern, though hit in the head and arm, fired back at his attacker and wounded him. The terrorist was later arrested. Stern was released from the hospital later in the week and will recover.

Elan Ganeles, another American-born Israeli, was shot and killed by a Palestinian terrorist on February 27 while driving near the town of Jericho.

The Biden administration has yet to mention either of these men publicly, other than to confirm via Twitter that an unnamed "US citizen" was the victim in each attack.

Short Takes

Strong, conservative women are shaking up the Republican Party

Katie Walsh Shields notes at the Daily Caller how "strong women, from the candidate, to staff, to volunteer level" are leading the GOP to greater successes. She writes, "As a party we’re seeing more women rising through the political operative ranks, more women running for office and women being elected to office. It is imperative that while the mainstream media and liberal elites do their best to tear down Republican women, we continue to provide examples of strong, steadfast conservative leaders to the next generation."

Iran is preparing for the day after an Israeli strike, US should too

Marc Greendorfer and Roz Rothstein note that if Israel must "carry out a last-ditch military strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities" to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons, Iran is prepared to attack Jewish communities in the US and elsewhere in retaliation. They warn that the US should prepare now for potential terrorist attacks on American Jewish targets.

Taking down the 'Evil Empire'

Lee Edwards, founding chairman of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, reminds us of how President Ronald Reagan helped bring down the Soviet Union. He named it the "evil empire" and predicted, correctly, that "the march of freedom and democracy . . . will leave Marxism-Leninism on the ash-heap of history." Reagan’s masterful use of rhetoric and the policies he implemented to back it up, helped "bring down that wall" and brought the hope of freedom to millions of people.
