RJC in the News

JNS: 'Her Strong Convictions, Not Politics,' RJC Says of Rep. Tenney’s Support for Israel, Jews

The Republican Jewish Coalition endorsed Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) for re-election in New York’s 24th Congressional District.

The congresswoman is "a dedicated advocate for her constituents in Upstate New York who has been a standout ally of Israel in its fight against Hamas and a strong voice against antisemitism," Norm Coleman and Matt Brooks, national chairman and CEO, respectively, of the RJC, stated on Friday.

... "There aren’t many Jewish voters in the 24th district," the RJC leaders said. "Congresswoman Tenney’s leadership is based on her strong convictions, not politics."

JNS: RJC Endorses Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole

The Republican Jewish Coalition voiced its support for Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), chair of the House Appropriations Committee, in his race for Oklahoma’s 4th District seat in the U.S House of Representatives.

"Tom Cole played an indispensable role in passing the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act—the bill to provide $14 billion in emergency aid for Israel's self-defense war in Gaza," Norm Coleman and Matt Brooks, national chairman and CEO, respectively, of the RJC said in a statement on Monday.

...Calling Cole a "stalwart ally in the fight against antisemitism," Brooks and Coleman praised the congressman as "a strong supporter of the National Security Grant Program that aids so many Jewish institutions. He has also used his platform to challenge what he accurately called in a recently published column, 'The Far Left's Serious Anti-Israel Problem.'"

Statement: RJC Endorses Sam Brown, Tim Sheehy for US Senate

The Republican Jewish Coalition announced its endorsements of decorated patriots Sam Brown and Tim Sheehy for US Senate from the great states of Nevada and Montana.

Republicans from across Nevada and Montana selected Sam Brown and Tim Sheehy - two Purple Heart recipients, successful businessmen, and conservative champions - as their candidates for US Senate.

RJC is proud to endorse Sam Brown and Tim Sheehy. In keeping with their years of patriotic service in the US military, we know both will always defend America and serve our country with honor and distinction.

Their Democratic opponents, Senators Jacky Rosen and Jon Tester, have failed to deliver results for Nevadans and Montanans – putting political loyalty ahead of hard-working families time and again, voting with Joe Biden's failed agenda 93% and 91% of the time respectively.

It's time for a change. RJC is excited to support decorated patriots Sam Brown and Tim Sheehy for US Senate and we look forward to firing Jacky Rosen and Jon Tester this November.

Fox News: AOC Slammed for Saying 'False Accusations' of Antisemitism are 'Wielded Against People of Color'

Fox News reports

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), said during an online discussion she hosted on Monday that "false accusations of antisemitism are wielded against people of color."

... The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) also reacted to Ocasio-Cortez's remarks in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"AOC's 'Squad' includes the most noxious antisemites in Congress," wrote Sam Markstein, RJC national political director. "And across the board, Democrats have shamefully refused to hold the Hamas Caucus of their party accountable. It is shocking that the Democratic Party has this much difficulty calling out antisemitism – instead of despicable race-baiting, AOC should focus on fighting bigotry in her own ranks."

Yahya Sinwar

Sinwar and the Nature of the War with Hamas

On Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported on messages from Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas military leader in Gaza, to his comrades abroad:

"'We have the Israelis right where we want them,' Sinwar said in a recent message to Hamas officials seeking to broker an agreement with Qatari and Egyptian officials."

... In dozens of messages—reviewed by The Wall Street Journal—that Sinwar has transmitted to cease-fire negotiators, Hamas compatriots outside Gaza and others, he's shown a cold disregard for human life and made clear he believes Israel has more to lose from the war than Hamas.

... In one message to Hamas leaders in Doha, Sinwar cited civilian losses in national-liberation conflicts in places such as Algeria, where hundreds of thousands of people died fighting for independence from France, saying, "these are necessary sacrifices."

These messages illuminate the inhumane, twisted thinking of the Hamas leader and the inherent weakness of the negotiating strategy pushed by US President Joe Biden. At Commentary magazine, Seth Mandel writes

The main takeaway from the [Wall Street Journal] article has been what should've been clear long ago: The ceasefire negotiators are getting played by a man whose every decision is calculated to cause as much bloodshed as possible.

...Sinwar has always been an ideologue and a maximalist, not a pragmatist. As the texts show, he has personally ordered the escalation of violence each time there appears to be a diplomatic breakthrough—whether between Israel and another country, such as Saudi Arabia, or between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, or even between Israel and Sinwar himself. His entire military and political strategy revolves around literally blowing up peace talks.

...Palestinian deaths are more important to the success of his strategy than Israeli deaths, although both are necessary to his hold on power.

Israeli journalist Haviv Rettig Gur comments on X / Twitter:

American pressure on Israel pushes Hamas *away* from the table. President Biden speaking on the world stage about an Israeli offer IS WHY Hamas took two weeks before coming back with a demand to completely end the war and get everything up front before having to release hostages.

It's not just that Sinwar doesn't care about Palestinian suffering - that suffering is his fundamental strategy. He won't end the war just to end the suffering of his compatriots; he's actually for ways to *increase* their suffering because it's his only major lever of influence over America, and thus over Israel.

Every Palestinian knows this. Every Israeli knows this. It's hard to believe that in their heart of hearts, American leaders are somehow the last people on Earth to still not see it.

If Hamas isn't scared, the war won't end. If you care about Palestinians, make Hamas desperately afraid. If you don't understand that simple dynamic, you shouldn't be working in foreign policy.

Short Takes

Hostages and international law

The amazing news last Saturday that four Israeli hostages had been rescued from captivity in Gaza was a jolt of joy for Israelis and Jewish communities around the world. We are grateful that Noa Argamani, 26, Almog Meir Jan, 21, Andrey Kozlov, 27, and Shlomi Ziv, 41, are home. Click here to read a detailed account of the rescue operation from the Jerusalem Post

While we celebrated, the Israel haters condemned Israel for the (false) number of civilian deaths in the firefight, including the families in whose homes the hostages were being held.

Writing at The Algemeiner, Daniel Pomerantz analyzes how international law views hostage takers. The key point: "[U]nder international law, common sense, and basic morality, a person who holds hostages is not, in fact, a civilian at all."

He concludes: "International criticism of Israel's hostage rescue operation stands in stark opposition to the fundamental tenets of international law, morality, and basic common sense. Such discussions lead us toward a paradoxical worldview in which hostage taking and terrorism are permitted, while self-defense and hostage rescue operations are not: thus emboldening terror groups the world over and planting the seeds of long-term danger to all free societies."

Washington Free Beacon: Pro-Hamas agitators surround the White House and call for dead Jews

[The same day as the hostage rescue, DC witnessed a horrifically antisemitic protest in front of the White House. No protesters were arrested.] Protesters from across the country descended upon Washington, DC, on Saturday afternoon, surrounded the White House, and clashed with police officers while calling for Hamas terrorists to kill Israelis... The highly organized demonstration reflects the far-left wing of the Democratic Party's embrace of terrorists amid their dissatisfaction with the Biden administration's handling of the Israel-Hamas war...  In the aftermath of the demonstrations, Lafayette Park was left littered with trash and vandalized with calls for the genocide of Jews. On one statue, the protesters wrote "Death to Amerikkka," "Death to Israel," and "Death to Zionists!"

Israel nominates MK Danny Danon as United Nations ambassador

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Israel Katz have announced the nomination of MK Danny Danon as Israel's ambassador to the United Nations.

With Danon's extensive experience in international relations, the decision is seen as a strategic maneuver to navigate mounting diplomatic challenges.

...If confirmed, this appointment will mark Danon's return to the role, underscoring his proven track record in advocating for Israel's interests at the United Nations.
