RJC in the News

NewsMax: Fmr Sen. Coleman to Newsmax: Biden's inaction boosts Jewish support for Trump

Former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, chair of the Republican Jewish Coalition, told Newsmax on Tuesday that President Joe Biden's words regarding support for Israel and a rise in antisemitic incidents across the US are not in sync with his actions.

"Actions do speak louder than words," Coleman told "American Agenda." "And the actions of this administration, the actions of Democrats against antisemitism [in their] own party have been zero."

It is among the reasons why Coleman predicted that Trump will gain a larger percentage of the Jewish vote in November's election than he did in his two previous presidential campaigns.

"Jews in America are turning more and more to Republicans, which, by the way, is challenging some long historical trends," Coleman said.

White House associate comms director ducks responsibility for past anti-Israel remarks

JNS quoted the RJC in a piece about the new White House associate communications director, Tyler Cherry, who in past social media posts praised antisemitic, pro-Palestinian activist Linda Sarsour and posted "free Palestine".

..."Why does the Biden administration think it's ok to hire and elevate virulently anti-Israel staffers?" wrote the Republican Jewish Coalition. "It's no wonder the White House continues to undermine the Jewish state."

Warning signs for Biden's Jewish support as war in Gaza drags on and antisemitism rises

The Republican Jewish Coalition, of which [former Jewish Republican Congressman Lee] Zeldin is on the board, is planning to spend at least $15 million in micro-targeted support of [Donald] Trump and other Republican candidates in states where Jewish voters make up more than the margins of victories in recent races. The expected central theme of that effort, according to one of the people involved, will be: As a Jewish American, do you feel safer than you did four years ago?

Rep. Jamaal Bowman, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at a rally for Bowman in the Bronx on June 22.

Jamaal Bowman Gets What He Deserves

The Jewish and pro-Israel communities were delighted to see Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY-16) lose his primary on Tuesday to challenger George Latimer. Bowman is the first incumbent member of the Squad to lose his seat.

Latimer is a pro-Israel centrist Democrat, while Bowman is a ranting, radical member of the "Squad" who hates Israel and despises his Jewish constituents. He doubled down on campaigning for the support of left-wing voters with unremitting attacks on Israel and the Jewish community.

In the end, Bowman was so far out of step with his district that all it took to defeat him was getting people to go to the polls. Grassroots organizing was key to making that happen. Westchester Unites organizer Dan Mitzner told the JTA last week that "700 volunteers are campaigning by canvassing neighborhoods, sending out text messages and emails, and making phone calls... [T]he group had made more than 17,000 phone calls and knocked on more than 5,000 doors." Late on primary election night, Sydney Altfield tweeted updated numbers: volunteers made over 50,000 calls and knocked on 12,500 doors, bringing Jewish voter turnout to nearly 60 percent.

Voter outreach works! You can help the RJC get out the vote in key swing states before Election Day in November by joining our volunteer network today! Volunteer today and join our phone bank before the presidential debate tonight!

Biden is Slow Walking Arms for Israel

The Biden administration was sending arms to Israel under emergency procedures at the start of the war with Hamas that moved things through the process very quickly. Now the administration has stepped back from that, saying that they've returned to the normal process. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), in letter to the President Joe Biden, accused the President of going even further, using bureaucratic delays to keep weapons out of Israel's hands.

Michael Doran argues at Tablet Magazine that Biden is intentionally withholding arms shipments for Israel to keep Israel from addressing the root of terrorism in the region: Iran. Doran writes: "Hezbollah represents the most formidable direct military threat that Israel faces. A full-scale conflict with it will burn up an enormous amount of equipment and ammunition in a very short period, and it risks drawing Iran more directly into the war. The Israelis came to Washington to stock up, to be ready for the conflict should it erupt. The Americans, by contrast, seek to restrain them. The purpose of the [slow walk of arms shipments] is to force the Israelis into dependence on the United States, to deny them the ability to make long-term plans—namely, plans regarding Hezbollah and Iran.

In Maryland, Larry Hogan Pursues Jewish Voters as GOP Senses Opening

The Washington Post reports on Maryland's former governor - now Senate candidate - Larry Hogan, a Republican who has a long and positive relationship with the Maryland Jewish community. The Post reports:

In Maryland, where Joe Biden easily defeated President Donald Trump, Republicans see an opportunity to peel off Jewish Democrats and independents, especially with a moderate like Hogan, who courted Jewish leaders as governor and who casts himself as an unquestioning ally of Israel.

..."We’re going to win most of the Jewish vote all over the state,” Hogan said in an interview with The Post. "No one’s standing up more for Israel than I am."

...Hogan drew applause as he recounted pro-Israel decisions he made as governor, including banning state contracts with businesses boycotting Israel. "Unlike my opponent, Hogan said without naming [Democrat Angela D.] Alsobrooks, "I’ll proudly support aid to Israel."

Jewish Insider: Lawsuit alleges that UNRWA served as Hamas money laundering operation

A new lawsuit filed in US federal court on Monday by survivors of the Oct. 7 terror attacks and family members of Israelis killed in the attacks alleges that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency played a central role in enabling the attacks by serving as a de facto money laundering operation for Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The civil suit, filed by MM-Law, a firm specializing in representing victims of terrorist attacks, crimes against humanity and other atrocities, alleges that UNRWA helped funnel millions of dollars each month to Hamas. The suit targets both UNRWA as an organization and several current and former UNRWA officials.

Texas Monthly: "The real heart of the Democratic Party is with the criminals"

Texas Monthly interviewed Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, who switched parties and became a Republican last year. They asked him what motivated him to change parties and how that had affected his job as mayor:

"The Democratic Party today is not the same party it was when I joined it thirty years ago...There was a time when you could be a conservative Democrat, and I fancied myself one of them. But that faction of the party is gone.

"...I am governing Dallas in a way that is completely indistinguishable from how I ran Dallas before I switched parties. There's no change in my policy positions, which is why any consternation about my party switch is ludicrous. Adhering to traditional Republican values is how I've governed Dallas for the past five years. Maybe we didn't call it that explicitly, but what do you call lowering people's tax rates every year for the past five consecutive years I've been in office? What do you call resisting the defund-the-police movement? Here's the big surprise, America: Dallas has been succeeding during the five years I've been mayor because I've always run the city like a Republican mayor would run the city."

Mansour: Liberal Jews deluded themselves on Palestine

Hussein Aboubakr Mansour writes at Tablet:

"Instead of being a marginal cause supported and funded by foreign elements, anti-Zionism is in fact the flagship foreign policy cause of the international left and the academic vanguard of progressive activism. A cause that was once regarded as fundamentally foreign is now mainstream across blue American cities and liberal elite institutions.

"...For contemporary college students, the Israel-Palestine issue is not a separate foreign policy issue referring to the struggles of people in a small spit of sand in the Middle East. It is a domestic issue of social justice that fits within a unitary and indivisible framework of global justice concerns and decolonization—on a par with BLM, the gender revolution, and climate justice. In fact, all of these separate slogans and causes are in a very real sense referring to the same thing, at least in the minds of the people who chant them. This is how intersectionality works."
