Jerusalem Post: Jewish Democratic groups stand by Biden despite lackluster debate performance
|
Sam Markstein, a spokesperson for the Republican Jewish Coalition, said ... "[I]t was clear [Donald] Trump was stronger and more forceful on topics from Gaza to Ukraine to the Indo-Pacific.
"[Joe] Biden just looked really weak and frail and totally out of his depth," Markstein told The Post. "I thought Trump was very direct, pointing out that with his administration, we had peace and security in the world. And with Biden, the whole world is blowing up."
Markstein said Jewish Americans across the country saw a president who did not have a grasp on the issues.
"If you have never voted for a Republican before, I think this is the year to seriously consider doing it," Markstein said. "Because the stakes are so high, and the commander in chief is not mentally with it."

Atlanta Jewish Times: Jewish Atlanta reacts to presidential debate
|
Chuck Berk, co-chair of the Atlanta chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition, said, "The message from last night's debate was clear: Joe Biden had a disastrous performance. His shaky voice, inability to make coherent points, and intermittent confusion were shocking. We should all be concerned with a leader who appears befuddled and infirm. Putin, Xi, Kim, and mullahs all watched the debate and now know how bad off the US president really is. I worry what actions we may see as a result from them. Trump's manner last night was much more reserved than previously. Besides repeatedly calling Biden the worst president ever, he stayed focused on a few key issues that are most concerning to the average American.
"[Donald] Trump pointed out that Biden's feckless Iran policy heightened the threat to Israel, believing that Oct. 7 would not have happened if Iran's economy was close to bankruptcy, which would have denied Hamas the funding and support to attack Israel. As Jews, we should be concerned that Biden is putting pressure on Israel to cease the war before Israel wins it and can effectively wipe out Hamas," Berk said.

JNS: Virginia certifies McGuire over Good in razor-thin 5th District primary
|
The Virginia State Board of Elections certified on Tuesday that State Sen. John McGuire defeated incumbent Rep. Bob Good in the Republican primary for the commonwealth's 5th District.
... The Republican Jewish Coalition, a group that backs pro-Israel Republicans, took the unusual step of endorsing McGuire in April after Good took several votes against Israel aid. The group celebrated McGuire's win on Tuesday.
"Across VA-05, Republican primary voters rejected extremist Rep. Bob Good and supported reliably pro-Israel RJC-endorsed conservative John McGuire to represent them in Congress," stated RJC national chairman Norm Coleman and CEO Matt Brooks. "This is a major victory for the RJC, the Jewish community, and for all pro-Israel Americans."

Jewish Insider: Doug Burgum emerges as a veepstakes favorite of pro-Israel Republicans
The Jewish Insider quoted several RJC leaders in conversations about which Republican VP hopefuls they supported. The RJC, as an organization, awaits President Donald Trump's announcement of who his running mate will be:
|
The RJC, which has endorsed Trump, indicated that it will not be weighing in on the Trump veepstakes. "We are confident that all of the names that are being discussed for vice president are all pro-Israel voices who will work alongside President Trump, who was and will be again, the most pro-Israel President in US history," Sam Markstein, the RJC's national political director, said in a text message to JI on Tuesday.

After the Debate: The Problem Goes Much Deeper Than Age
|
The lie that President Joe Biden is active, capable, and cognitively "just fine" was ripped apart by the presidential debate on CNN last week. The entire country – and the entire world – saw exactly how much the President has deteriorated in recent years.
One truly disturbing element of all this is how the President is perceived abroad. The Wall Street Journal reports that European officials have seen " a noticeable deterioration in the president's faculties in meetings since last summer."
While America's reputation abroad takes a hit when the US President looks weak and ineffectual, Jonathan Tobin goes a step further in his analysis of the debate:
|
...[T]he evidence of Biden's diminished capacity on display during the 90-minute verbal wrangle can be seen as a reason why the nation's enemies have been emboldened during the last three-and-a-half years.
But even if Biden is a liability, to the United States as well as the Democratic Party, the problem goes deeper than the president's apparent decline.
... [T]he crises abroad are as much a function of flawed policies that the Biden foreign-policy team has been pursuing as the president's lack of acuity... Biden's foreign policy has from its first day in office been essentially a replay of that pursued during the presidency of Barack Obama. With much of the same personnel in place at the National Security Council and the US State Department, they were primarily focused on turning the clock back to January 2017 and rolling back everything that Trump did in his four years.

The Jewish Vote Matters in 2024
|
The Jewish Insider has a very telling quote from former Bernie Sanders operative Joel Rubin on why Squad member Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) lost his primary race:
|
Rubin said Bowman's blowout loss to Westchester County Executive George Latimer, driven in part by anti-Bowman mobilization among Jewish voters in the district, should be a wake-up call about how important the Jewish voter population is for the Democratic party — highlighting that Jewish voters could be key constituencies in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Florida and Georgia.

Israel to Get Some Weapons, But Not All
|
The Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) reports:
|
The Biden administration has held up transfers of seven weapon systems to the Jewish state, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told Shannon Bream on the program Fox News Sunday.
"This is what is most disturbing to me—is that we're withholding weapon systems that I have signed off on and Congress has appropriated with the intent of sending those weapons to Israel," McCaul said. "Remember the supplemental? They were effectively withholding seven weapon systems."
|
Axios reports:
|
The Biden administration is expected to soon release 500-lb. bombs that were part of a weapons shipment to Israel put on hold in April over US concerns about the Israel Defense Forces' military operation in Rafah, one US and one Israeli official told Axios... US and Israeli officials say the Biden administration is still reviewing another part of the shipment that includes 1,800 2,000-lb. Bombs.
|
So, when will Israel get the rest of the weapons they need and have been promised?

Brands: Biden faces a hard choice to avert Israel's next war
AEI Senior Fellow Hal Brands writes at Bloomberg:
"Many Israelis believe, rightly, that Hezbollah seeks their destruction, and — after the horrors of Oct. 7 — are unwilling to live indefinitely with the threat it poses. But there may nonetheless be an opening for de-escalation. Israel knows that war with Hezbollah would be hellish — and Hezbollah knows that all-out conflict with Israel would be its ruin.
"The key is ruthless coercive diplomacy. Hezbollah is more likely to pull back, and Iran is more likely to counsel retrenchment, if they are convinced that America will aid Israel resolutely.
"[Joe] Biden must make clear that he will give Israel the time and resources it needs to decimate Hezbollah — that there will be no early calls for a cease-fire, and that American bombs and bullets will flow. He should make clear, moreover, that Washington will inflict crushing punishment on Iran if Iran enters the conflict — as a way of convincing Hezbollah that if it fights, it fights alone.
"Unfortunately, the administration's body language signals something different — a transparent, almost desperate desire for calm in the run-up to a crucial presidential vote. When Iran attacked Israel in April, for instance, the US — after organizing a successful defense against Tehran's drones and missiles — pivoted immediately to restraining the Israeli response.."

Free Beacon: Judge rejects Biden admin bid to dismiss lawsuit over 'illegal and dangerous' $1.5 billion Palestinian payment plan
A US district court rejected the Biden administration's bid to dismiss a landmark lawsuit alleging it engaged in an "illegal and dangerous $1.5 billion terrorism subsidy program for the Palestinians."
The US District Court for the Northern District of Texas ruled on Friday that the lawsuit brought by victims of Palestinian terrorism can proceed, marking the second time the Biden administration's motion to dismiss the case has been rejected. The court, in its latest decision, said there is evidence the Biden administration continued awarding taxpayer cash to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA)—the leading aid organization in Gaza—even after Congress blocked funding to that group due to its support for Hamas's military infrastructure.
