RJC in the News

Washington Times: Biden's weakness hurts Israel, US

In an op-ed at The Washington Times, RJC CEO Matt Brooks writes:

Last month's presidential debate in Atlanta confirmed what many of us have warned: The commander in chief is not in command. Voters across the United States witnessed President [Joe] Biden's weakness and frailty firsthand — as did the adversaries of America in Tehran, Moscow and Beijing. I take no joy or glee in saying this. Our country desperately needs strong leadership, and Mr. Biden is simply not up to the task of confronting the myriad challenges our country faces today.

Mr. Biden's poor performance is indicative of an administration without a firm grip on major policy issues, including US support for our key ally Israel as it fights a war for its survival against Hamas in the south and Hezbollah in the north.

Today, the Biden administration is actively undermining Israel by withholding and slow-walking critical military aid to the Jewish state.

Mr. Biden's pause on arms shipments to Israel affects its operational readiness, prolongs the conflict and signals weakness to the enemies of the United States and Israel…. Read the full article here.

Haaretz: Deport 'pro-Hamas' students, build a US Iron Dome: GOP releases 2024 party platform in Trump's image

The Republican National Committee's platform committee adopted Donald Trump's 2024 party platform with overwhelming support, effectively codifying support for the presumptive nominee's policy agenda.

The platform, which embodies the GOP's evolution into a party in Trump's image, is notably more succinct than past versions and consists of 20 summarizing bullet points.

It leaves no illusions as to where Trump's priorities and policies relating to Israel, Jews and the Middle East lie, however. It specifically highlights his pet project of bringing Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system to the US while explicitly vowing to deport pro-Palestinian protesters holding student visas and bolstering Israel's regional partnerships in the Middle East.

Republican Jewish Coalition National Political Director Sam Markstein said: "For 3.5 years, Joe Biden's weakness and appeasement have crippled America both at home and abroad. The Republican National Committee, in adopting President Donald J. Trump's 2024 Republican Party Platform, is clear: We must return to peace through strength."

According to Markstein, "President Trump will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our key allies like Israel and confront our adversaries who have been emboldened like never before under Biden. The 2024 GOP Platform is robust, optimistic, and contrasts sharply with the failed agenda and policies of Joe Biden and the Democrats. November 5th cannot come soon enough."

Jewish Insider: RJC endorses challengers to eight endangered House Democrats

The Republican Jewish Coalition on Thursday announced its first round of endorsements of GOP candidates challenging incumbent Democrats in swing districts.

See below for the full story.

RJC Announces First Round of 2024 House Challenger Endorsements

As the Jewish Insider reported today, the RJC has announced its first round of endorsements of GOP candidates challenging incumbent Democrats in swing districts. These Democrats are among the most vulnerable in the nation, so our efforts can help these great Republican challengers to win those seats and build the House GOP majority!

In our announcement of these eight new endorsements, the RJC stated:

This year, House Republicans have recruited an array of impressive challengers for the most competitive races. RJC enthusiastically endorses Gabe Evans (CO-8), Austin Theriault (ME-2), Yvette Herrell (NM-2), Laurie Buckhout (NC-1), Derek Merrin (OH-9), Kevin Coughlin (OH-13), Ryan Mackenzie (PA-7) and Rob Bresnahan (PA-8) for Congress.

There is a stark distinction between the agendas of House Democrats versus House Republicans when it comes to the concerns of Jewish Americans:

  • Republicans will continue an aggressive investigation into antisemitism on college campuses. Democrats will shut the investigation down.

  • Republicans will continue to insist on putting additional pressure on the Iranian regime, while Democrats will continue to be tongue-tied over Iran's role in destabilizing the Middle East through its terrorist proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah.

  • And Republicans will stand with Israel in its self-defense efforts - including by banning US aid to Hamas' abettors UNRWA - while Democrats will continue to undermine the Jewish state and restore UNRWA funding without meaningful accountability.

We know these eight standout candidates for Congress will stand with the Jewish community and with Israel, and RJC is excited to support them.

Jewish Voters Feeling Abandoned by Dems Since Oct. 7

Fox News interviewed a Jewish voter in New York who feels that President Joe Biden and Democrats do not have her best interests at heart, so she has decided that the GOP is the better option.

Ex-Democrat Melissa Chapman told "Fox & Friends" that she continues to feel "completely abandoned" by the left… "I was the perfect Democrat, I did everything right… As soon as October 7th happened, I was completely abandoned by every single group that I supported," she said.

"There are five living American hostages… their names should be on the lips of every single person. Brittney Griner, when she was arrested, and she was in jail, her name was on the lips of every American… There are American citizens who have been held hostage in Gaza by a terrorist organization, and the administration has done nothing about anything that's been happening since October 7."

…[S]ome Jewish voters – also a longstanding Democratic voting bloc – have begun to rethink their support for the party, with those like Chapman disillusioned with the Democrats' response to war in the Middle East and antisemitism unfolding domestically.

"If you're an American, you should be upset. Forget about being Jewish as an American. The fact that they're burning flags in the streets… You should be talking about the fact that people are burning American flags in the streets. It's insulting."

Why the Left Is Throwing Biden a Lifeline

The Editorial Board of the Wall Street Journal offers a deeply disturbing analysis of why the extremists on the left wing of the Democratic Party are rallying around President Joe Biden now, after his disastrous debate performance showed the public how cognitively impaired he is. They write:

President Biden is phoning friends across his party to rally support, so pay close attention to who is answering the call. His staunchest defenders are on the left, while moderates in swing districts are asking the President to withdraw from the race. There's more than 2024 electoral calculation behind this highly revealing political turn.

No one outside the Biden family has been more fiercely pro-Biden since the President's debate flop than Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez… Another stalwart for the President is Sen. Bernie Sanders, who says he believes Mr. Biden can still win—if he campaigns on the Bernie agenda. Even Rep. Ilhan Omar, who has been denouncing Mr. Biden's Israel policy for months, is now in the Save Biden camp. This week she said "he's been the best president of my lifetime, and we have his back."

…The desperate President is turning to the left because he knows these Democrats don't face electoral challenges. Progressives are running in safe seats or in Democratic states where Donald Trump has no chance to win. But in his desperation, Mr. Biden is also making a possible second term even more hostage to the left. Bernie and AOC have plenty of unfinished policy business they hope to get done if Democrats control the White House and Congress.

Things will work out for progressives even if Mr. Biden wins but doesn't make it through the entire four years. Their dream scenario would be for President Biden to win, then retire and pass the Oval Office on to Vice President Kamala Harris, who ran as a whole-hearted progressive in the primaries in 2020.

Mr. Biden's political vulnerability, and his turn to progressives for a lifeline, raises the policy stakes even higher for the November election.

Algemeiner: Kamala Harris says young anti-Israel protesters 'showing exactly what the human emotion should be' in response to Gaza

US Vice President Kamala Harris said in a new interview that young anti-Israel protesters are showing "exactly what the human emotion should be" as a response to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

In the interview with The Nation for a profile in the progressive magazine, Harris was asked about her stance on Israel, the war in Gaza, and whether she is further left on the issues politically than US President Joe Biden.

The interview had particular importance in light of growing questions regarding Biden's mental fitness for office, whether he will stay in the race after a poor debate performance, and what a Harris presidency may look like.

…The protests Harris was referring to included demands for a ceasefire to end the war in Gaza. They also included calls for violence such as an "intifada revolution," images glorifying Hamas and other US-designated terrorist organizations, and calls for "death to America" and "death to Israel."

Jewish Insider: US Director of National Intelligence: Iran is influencing and funding Gaza war protests

Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines said on Tuesday that the Iranian government has both provoked and provided funding for protests in the US over the war in Gaza, suggesting that connections between US-based demonstrators and the Iranian regime and its affiliates go deeper than previously believed.

"In recent weeks, Iranian government actors have sought to opportunistically take advantage of ongoing protests regarding the war in Gaza, using a playbook we've seen other actors use over the years," Haines said in a public statement. "We have observed actors tied to Iran's government posing as activists online, seeking to encourage protests, and even providing financial support to protesters."

Rep. Kustoff visits Israel to strengthen House-Knesset ties

Congressman David Kustoff (R-TN), chairman of the House-Knesset Parliamentary Friendship Group, traveled to Israel at the invitation of Speaker of the Knesset Amir Ohana to officially launch the House-Knesset Parliamentary Friendship Group in Jerusalem.

Congressman Kustoff delivered a historic address to members of the Knesset, met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and visited Israeli locations that were targeted by Hamas terrorists on October 7.

JNS: US to permanently remove Gaza aid pier

The United States military is pulling the plug on a Gaza aid pier that has been plagued with problems since it began operations in May, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday, citing several American officials.

David Friedman, the former US ambassador to Israel during the Trump administration, has said that "this pier was a massive waste of money that had no value other than virtue signaling to Biden's base."
