Breitbart: Matt Brooks - It Has Become 'More Acceptable' Among Democrats to Hate Israel

Republican Jewish Coalition CEO Matt Brooks told Breitbart News at the Republican National Convention last month that it had become "more acceptable" among Democrats to be anti-Israel.

Brooks spoke to Breitbart News right after delivering a speech to the convention at which he drew loud cheers for Israel.

…Brooks reflected on the growing intolerance toward Israel among Democrats, which burst into the open in 2012, when there was a loud voice vote on the floor of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, against pro-Israel planks being re-inserted into the party platform. (Party leaders ignored the "no" votes, which were louder.)

That had been "the canary in the coal mine," Brooks said. "It’s only gotten worse. And more importantly, it’s gotten more acceptable. It used to be if you were anti-Israel, pro-Palestinians, pro-Hamas, whatever, it was more hushed tones. Now it’s out in the open. Now, it’s absolutely overt. ‘Israel is a genocide state.’ ‘Israel is an apartheid state.’ You know, ‘Israel is guilty of war crimes.’ All of the rhetoric coming out of the Democrats now is seen as being perfectly acceptable, and not condemned, but rather condoned."

Brooks was confident that Republicans would grow their share of the Jewish vote in 2024, especially given Biden’s weak Israel policy.

Fox News: Jewish organizations react to Harris’ Walz pick: 'Far left nightmare'

Vice President Kamala Harris’ decision to tap Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate elicited mixed reactions from Jewish organizations.

"This is the same guy who famously said, 'One person's socialism is another person's neighborliness.' Seriously?" read a X post by the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) on Tuesday.

JNS: Harris taps Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota, as her running mate

Matt Brooks, CEO of the Republican Jewish Coalition, slammed Walz for his endorsement of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), one of the most strident critics of Israel in the House and a vocal member of the progressive "Squad."

"Of particular concern for the American Jewish community is Governor Walz’s embrace of the most vicious anti-Israel and antisemitic member of Congress, Ilhan Omar," Brooks stated. "Walz has endorsed and supported this notorious ‘Squad’ member for years, championing her as a ‘progressive leader’ in Congress."

"The loud and ascendant voices on the hard left of today’s Democratic Party should terrify every Jewish American," Brooks added in a follow-up statement.

NYT: Walz Instead of Shapiro Excites Left, but May Alienate Jewish Voters:

"Republicans are ready to drive the wedge. The Republican Jewish Coalition hit Mr. Walz for not repudiating Representative Ilhan Omar, Democrat of Minnesota, who has been repeatedly criticized for using antisemitic tropes."

RADIO

RJC National Chairman Senator Norm Coleman was on the Sid and Friends in the Morning show on WABC-AM (New York) on August 6. He said:

The antisemites and the far-Left control the Democratic Party right now. The antisemites and the far Left, they vetoed a Jewish potential vice president candidate. That's what you have going on right now in the Democratic Party. That's the ascending voices. Walz was the choice of Bernie Sanders and Ilhan Omar to be vice president.

(Audio here.)

Also on August 6, Sean Hannity read from the RJC's statement about Tim Walz on his show and talked about the anti-Israel wing of the Democratic Party. (From the 4:50 mark here.)

TELEVISION

Senator Norm Coleman appeared on NewsMax on August 6, 2024 to discuss Kamala Harris's choice of Tim Walz as her running mate, Walz's extreme record, and how Harris caved to the antisemitic wing of the Democratic Party in making this choice.

"I can tell you right now that the Democratic Party is losing its support among American Jews… This choice by Harris, pushing aside Josh Shapiro, I think is a very, very big mistake."

Video here.

RJC CEO Matt Brooks appeared on The Chris Salcedo Show on NewsMax to talk about the choice of Tim Walz for the Democratic VP spot.

"You couldn't have picked a more progressive, anti-Israel ticket than we see now with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. If you like the Squad in Washington, if you like Ilhan Omar... and Jamaal Bowman and AOC and that whole crew – I can tell you it's going to send a shiver down the spine of the Jewish community, especially in this day and age where Israel is under attack and fighting for its existence in an existential war and also with the rise of antisemitism here at home.

..."You'd have to be deaf, dumb, and blind not to see that Josh Shapiro was too Jewish and too pro-Israel for today’s Democratic Party -- and it's not just us Republicans who are saying that."

...As I said in my speech at the Republican convention a few weeks ago, to the American Jewish community that it is time to wake up, there is only one pro-Israel party, there's only one party that's going to be committed to law and order and combating antisemitism... and that's the Republican Party.

Who is Tim Walz?

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was unknown to most Americans before he became Kamala Harris's choice for running mate. Here are a few things you should know about his record.

Axios: Minnesota to allow undocumented immigrants to apply for driver's licenses

Minnesotans will be able to obtain driver's licenses regardless of their immigration status under a law signed by Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday. The measure, which passed the DFL-majority Legislature in recent weeks, will allow an estimated 81,000 people living in the state without permanent legal status to apply for a license or state-issued ID card… Republicans have expressed concerns that the IDs could make it easier for people to sign up to vote or get other government benefits they aren't eligible for due to their immigration status.

National Review: How Tim Walz Spent Your Money

In 2021, Democrats enacted the American Rescue Plan Act without a single Republican vote. Purportedly for pandemic recovery, the $1.9 trillion law included the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF). That was $350 billion for states that were running surpluses and did not need extra money, with very few restrictions on how it could be spent.

…[N]o state has spent more of its share of the SLFRF money than Minnesota under Governor Tim Walz.

The SLFRF was really a slush fund for Bidenomics, with state and local-level politicians using the extra federal dollars for things that had nothing to do with pandemic relief, some of which were little more than progressive political projects.

…[A] report on the SLFRF in December 2023 … highlighted wasteful spending supported by the fund across the country…

Squad member Rep. Cori Bush (MO-1) lost her primary on Tuesday. Her concession speech included a rant against Jewish supporters of Israel.

Every Vote Counts! Just Ask Cori Bush.

The Times of Israel reports:

Democratic Rep. Cori Bush, a member of the hardline left-wing "Squad" that is harshly critical of Israel, was defeated Tuesday in a Missouri primary by an opponent who attracted millions of dollars in pro-Israel money.

… The Associated Press called the St. Louis-area primary race Tuesday night for Wesley Bell, the St. Louis Country prosecutor, as he led Bush 51.2 percent to 45.6% with more than 96% of the vote counted.

… Bush’s opposition to Israel may have had an effect. Bell won big in St. Louis County, where most of the district’s 60,000 Jews reside. Bush was leading in St. Louis City, but not by enough of a margin to make a difference.

A report in the Jewish News Syndicate highlighted the impact of voter outreach efforts in the Jewish community:

Benjamin Singer, of the voter turnout group St. Louis Together, told reporters that "it appears that Jewish St. Louisans were highly motivated to turn out and vote," and, "in fact, we saw three times voter turnout among Jewish families compared to the average St. Louis family."

..."Even including election day, the turnout in the county was still under 30% while the Orthodox turnout was above 70%," [Agudath Israel of America] added, "and likely higher once all the data is reviewed."

Rechnitz: Democrat bias against Israel needs a Jewish response

In an op-ed at the Jerusalem Post, RJC Leader Bobby Rechnitz writes: "American Jewry needs to make our voices and our votes count. We need to send a message that the State of Israel is important to us and will be a major factor when we face the ballot paper in November. It needs to be made clear to all, that whoever stands with the ancestral and indigenous homeland of the Jewish People at one of its most challenging times will receive our support."

Washington Examiner: Biden administration rulemaking blitzes aim to Trump-proof the federal government

President Joe Biden will be leaving office in January after bowing out of his reelection bid, but even if his party loses control of the White House, he’s working to cement a legacy that Trump can’t easily undo. The Biden administration finalized hundreds of regulations this spring, putting them out of reach of a quick repeal should Trump retake the presidency. [This is part one of a series.]

Jewish Insider: Pro-Israel group struggling to gain permit to rally at DNC — while pro-Palestinian groups got green light

For several weeks, the City of Chicago has been sitting on a request from a pro-Israel group to hold a solidarity march during the Democratic National Convention, even as it has granted permission for a coalition of pro-Palestinian activists to demonstrate when the proceedings kick off later this month.
