RJC Endorses Nine Candidates in Key House Battlegrounds

The RJC has announced the endorsements of nine candidates in key House battlegrounds - four incumbents and five challengers.

The newly endorsed candidates are:

RJC CEO Matt Brooks and National Chairman Senator Norm Coleman said:

The battle for control of Congress has intensified and certain races are coming into focus as increasingly competitive. RJC’s goal in this election cycle is not just to maintain a GOP majority in the House but to expand it. Victory in these key races is essential to accomplish this.

As we’ve noted before, Jewish Americans have a big stake in which party controls the House of Representatives in 2025.

We know that Republicans will press on with vigorous investigations into campus antisemitism that have provided unprecedented transparency and accountability, whereas Democrats will shut those investigations down.

We know Republicans will maximize pressure on the Iranian regime, while Democrats will refuse to confront Iran's indispensable role in destabilizing the Middle East through terrorist proxies like Hamas,Hezbollah, and the Houthis.

And we know that Republicans will continue to stand with Israel and maintain a ban on US aid to Hamas' collaborators UNRWA - while Democrats will restore UNRWA funding without meaningful accountability and waver on Israel’s right to defend itself from unprecedented aggression to placate their growing anti-Israel base.

The candidates RJC is endorsing today understand what is at stake for our community and for our beleaguered ally Israel in these elections. We welcome the opportunity to help them steer a course to victory in November.

RJC Victory Fund Releases New Ads

The RJC Victory Fund has released two new ads about Kamala Harris and her record on antisemitism and Israel, two key issues for Jewish voters in this year's election.

The first ad, "Won't," shows the clearly antisemitic nature of the protests against Israel that we've seen on campuses and on city streets since October 11, 2023. The ad notes that Kamala Harris embraces the "Squad" in Congress and sympathizes with antisemitic protesters. It concludes, "Kamala Harris is no ordinary Democrat. She's radical and wrong for us."

The second ad, "Much Worse," looks at the antisemitism here at home and the terrorism abroad that concern our community. Then it looks at Kamala Harris's record as California attorney general, where she let an antisemitic professor continue to preach hate. In the US Senate, she backed the disastrous deal that gave billions to Iran. Today, she defends the extreme, antisemitic "Squad" and she supports withholding needed weapons from Israel. The ad concludes: "Kamala Harris: much worse than Biden."

The Victory Fund previously released "Meet the Squad." It shows Kamala Harris embracing and defending the Squad - the radical, antisemitic, anti-Israel members of Congress. Harris joined the Squad in sympathizing with antisemitic, anti-Israel protesters. The ad says: "Kamala Harris is no ordinary Democrat. She stands with the Squad, not with us."

You can see the ads at the links above or on the Victory Fund website at www.RJCVF.com.

‘Defender of Israel Award’ Goes to Three Men Who Willingly Put Their Lives on the Line on Oct. 7

JNS has the moving stories of the Israeli heroes who were honored during the RJC Leadership Summit in Las Vegas this year: Menachem Kalmanson and his brother Elchanan, Itamar Charlap, and Kobi Shabtai. The awards were presented by the Steven M Mizel Foundation.

“I feel it is important that American Jews hear, meet and speak with some of the heroes of Israel in the fight against terrorists wanting to eliminate Jews and the State of Israel,” [Steven] Mizel told JNS. The Republican Jewish Coalition gives them the medium to do this.

So it was in front of that convention that Mizel gave his speech to the crowd, beginning: “Each year, we honor individuals whose service to the Jewish people and the State of Israel has gone above and beyond."

See the video of the award presentations and the remarks from each of these heroes here. All the videos from the 2024 Leadership Summit are here.

Look Out, Kamala Harris is Bad News

The more we hear about Kamala Harris's record and her plans for the future, the clearer it becomes just how high the stakes are this year. Our community's safety, our country's safety, and our ally Israel's safety depend on bringing Donald Trump back to the White House and keeping Kamala Harris out of it.

Jonathan Tobin writes at JNS about the serious consequences we can expect from a Harris administration:

…[Joe] Biden’s weakness is largely to blame for the current escalation of conflict throughout the region and the growing threats to Israel. More of the same under Harris would increase the chances for even more conflict… Biden’s foreign-policy team was almost all composed of [Barack] Obama alumni, which ensured that it would be deeply hostile to [Benjamin] Netanyahu, who they resented for his courageous opposition to their nuclear betrayal on Iran. A Harris team will also likely be heavily influenced by the same mindset.

…Unlike during Obama’s presidency, the administration will no longer be held even slightly in check by pro-Israel Democrats or fear of offending its party base. Harris doesn’t have the same pro-Israel bona fides as a previous generation of Democratic leaders, though she knows it is in her interest to mimic this formula.

…That is a prescription for unrelenting pressure on Israel to stand down in its war on Hamas, make more concessions to Hezbollah in Lebanon and acquiesce to an Iran that is on the verge of joining the nuclear club. Cutoffs of weapons, a green light to the lawfare against Israel in the United Nations, more sanctions against Israelis and fewer against Palestinian terrorists will become a real possibility.

UN General Assembly Passes Resolution Calling for Jerusalem Old City to be Jew-free

Mike Wagenheim reports for JNS on the outrageous UNGA resolution that passed this week:

Jerusalem’s Old City, in addition to Judea and Samaria, must be Judenrein within a year, according to a Palestinian-drafted resolution, which the U.N. General Assembly passed on Wednesday.

The resolution, which passed by a 124-14 margin with 43 abstentions, is meant to give force to a July advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice, which declared Israeli presence to be illegal in any area over the 1949 armistice line.

More than 40 countries sponsored the resolution, which was the first that Palestinians filed after being granted unprecedented privileges, for a non-U.N. member, earlier this year.

…The resolution text lacks any mention of Israeli security concerns, historic ties to the lands or Hamas’s terror attacks in Israel on Oct. 7.

…Argentina, Czechia, Fiji, Hungary, Malawi, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Tonga, Tuvalu and the United States joined Israel in opposing the resolution.

Notably, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, Ukraine and Australia were among those who abstained.

General Assembly resolutions have no legal force, but the resolution’s passage on Wednesday is expected to be used in international courts and other fora to seek additional action against the Jewish state… It is widely expected that the Palestinians will request that the U.N. Security Council take up the issue.

International human rights lawyer Anne Bayefsky compares this week's UNGA vote with a similarly evil 1975 vote that declared that "Zionism is racism." She writes:

Most telling for Americans and Israelis, however, was not the rot at the core of today’s UN, but the disturbing contrast between the response of the Biden-Harris administration’s UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield and the moral clarity of UN Ambassador Daniel Patrick Moynihan in 1975.

Be sure to read the case Bayefsky makes against the weak rhetoric and bad policy expressed by Biden-Harris administration UN Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield.

What experts make of Israel's 'ingenious' Hezbollah pager attack

Adam Kredo at the Washington Free Beacon talked to experts on the Middle East about Israel's "astonishing" attack on Hezbollah using pagers and other electronic devices. Elliott Abrams, Jonathan Schanzer, Gabriel Noronha and others weigh in on the tactical and strategic implications of Israel's latest bold move to reestablish deterrence.

Tobin: The issue that isn’t being addressed in the campaign

[T]hose who think that woke ideologies, which have captured so much of America’s education system, as well as the government bureaucracy and even the arts, pose only a minor threat to America’s future are mistaken.

As much as any other topic, the fate of this wildly successful movement will determine what kind of country Americans live in for decades to come. And as fateful as the decision will be for the entire electorate as to whether the government should take the initiative in rolling back the woke tide, it will be especially important for American Jewry.

[This is a must-read, must-share article.]

Bernstein: The Biden-Harris Justice Department has failed American Jews

David Bernstein writes that federal authorities, particularly the Department of Justice, "could do a lot to protect American Jews, and they are doing little to none of it." He goes on to list several ways that charges could be brought against people or institutions that threaten, or allow others to threaten, the lives and safety of Jewish people in America.

He writes, "One can speculate as to why the Justice Department has been so quiescent in the face of the largest outbreak of antisemitism in the United States in decades, failing to use existing legal tools when the antisemitism turns illegal. But what we can say for sure is that despite Attorney General Merrick Garland’s stated commitment to protecting the American Jewish community from hate crimes, his Justice Department has been an almost complete failure in combating such crimes inspired or committed by anti-Israel activists."
