Radicals Gain Momentum in the Democratic Party

Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) candidates are racking up wins in Democratic Party primaries across the country. The Washington Examiner reports that: "The DSA has backed 150 candidates this cycle: 35 advanced from their primaries or were unopposed, while 34 have lost. Some of the wins include incumbents in federal or local government. The remaining results are still outstanding."

Stu Smith points out at The Free Press that the DSA is becoming a communist organization. He writes that the majority of the DSA's governing board, the National Political Committee (NPC), openly identifies with communist ideology. In 2025, the NPC expanded in size and communist-aligned caucuses took over the majority. As the DSA has grown, it has become an attractive place for communist groups to gain resources and power to win over more people. The same "takeover from within" method that communist groups have always used to infiltrate and reshape organizations is at work in the radical DSA, and through the DSA, is at work in the Democratic Party.

Unfortunately, the Democratic Party isn't doing much about it. Think back to Ronald Reagan's fight to keep communists from taking over of the Screen Actors Guild, or the efforts of the early United Auto Workers leaders to remove communists from that union. The modern Democratic Party has shown none of the spine needed to keep the radical left from gaining more power in the lead-up to the 2026 elections.

Jewish Democrats Face Obstacles as Antisemitism and Anti-Israel Pressure Grow in Their Party

Jewish Democrats are learning too late that taking on the radical, anti-Israel positions of the far left won't save them. The writing is on the wall for Jewish Democrats seeking elective office: your party no longer accepts you.

Jonathan Tobin writes that Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) lost his seat to an even more radical Democrat, because Goldman wasn't considered " sufficiently ideologically pure to suit the current political fashion of delegitimizing Jewish identity on the left."

Liel Leibovitz writes about Scott Wiener, who "had already publicly succumbed to his party’s most raging radicals. Earlier this year, he abandoned his previously ever-so-slightly nuanced position on the conflict — one that put at least some of the blame on Hamas and its campaign of rapes and massacres — and declared Israel guilty of 'genocide.' … None of that was nearly enough for the hordes cornering him on Friday."

In a CNN panel discussing the prospects for Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and PA Gov. Josh Shapiro in the 2028 Democratic presidential primary, panelists appeared to rank the two men on how "Jewish" they appear. And one panelist said that Ossoff's criticisms of the Israeli government may put him in a better position than Shapiro, who is pro-Israel.

Rahm Emanuel, who also has his eye on the 2028 presidential elections, gave a speech in Israel yesterday in which he tried to establish his anti-Israel bona fides. The NY Post Editorial Board writes that Emanuel "read the Jewish state the Riot Act," decried "unconditional US support" for Israel, vowed to end US military aid to Israel, called for sanctions against West Bank settlers, and demanded the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state flanking Israel on both sides. The editors conclude: "Emanuel is feasting with wolves in hopes they’ll forget he’s on the menu. It won’t turn out well."

JNS: Nearly one-third of Democrats favor leaders who identify as democratic socialists, Pew finds

The survey of 8,512 US adults, conducted Jan. 20-26, found that 32% of Democrats and Democratic leaners view democratic socialist leaders favorably, while 56% said they neither like nor dislike them. Just 11% said they dislike such leaders.

"This confirms what voters have watched unfold primary night after primary night: the Democratic Party is being remade in the image of the Communist Squad, and its leaders are letting it happen," Sam Markstein, national political director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, told JNS.

Wall Street Journal: Jewish Democrats Eyeing 2028 Presidential Bids Confront Party's Hostility for Israel

"Today in the Democratic Party, being Jewish is a liability," said Norm Coleman, chairman of the Republican Jewish Coalition and a former US senator from Minnesota.

A New York Times columnist who has repeatedly risen to the defense of US Senate candidate Graham Platner is now publicly accepting "blame," saying that she "deeply" regrets a column she wrote defending the Democratic nominee, who put his Maine campaign on hold this week after being accused of rape.

Apologies from the rest of the paper's staff for the newspaper's oddly gentle treatment of Platner haven't yet emerged, but they'd be warranted.

JNS: Report finds UNESCO repeatedly identified Hamas, Islamic Jihad operatives as journalists

A new report by UN Watch found that the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization repeatedly identified Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives as journalists after they were killed in Gaza, even after evidence of their terrorist affiliations became public.

According to the report, released on Wednesday, UNESCO “has neither corrected nor withdrawn the statements in question” despite later acknowledgments by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad that several of those identified as journalists were members of their organizations.
