RJC Commends Senate Resolution Against House’s Irregular “Impeachment Inquiry"

The Republican Jewish Coalition commends Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham for introducing a Senate resolution calling on the House to bring its actions regarding the possible impeachment of President Donald Trump into line with due process, precedent, and tradition

RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said:

Republicans in the Senate are right to condemn the irregular actions of House Democrats, who are pursuing a vendetta against President Trump, not a legitimate impeachment proceeding.

Everything about this so-called impeachment inquiry has been contrary to historical precedent, the basic due process rights of the President and the procedural rights historically afforded to the House minority. Secret committee hearings, unilateral decisions by the Speaker announced at press conferences, unsubstantiated claims leaked to the media – all these tactics used by the House Democrats to “get” President Trump are causing great harm to our constitutional institutions and endangering the Republic.

We join with Senator Lindsey Graham, and the overwhelming majority of Republican Senators who have co-sponsored his resolution, in calling on the Democratic leaders of the House to hold a vote to open a formal impeachment inquiry and to conduct such an inquiry with respect for the institutions, rights, and processes defined by the American Constitution and historical precedent.
