RJC Condemns Anti-Israel Democrats, Applauds Senate Republicans for Standing with Israel

Washington, DC - The Republican Jewish Coalition released the following statement condemning 18 anti-Israel Democrats in the US Senate for voting in favor of an arms embargo against Israel. RJC CEO Matt Brooks said:

Today marks a dangerous new low for anti-Israel Democrats in the US Senate, who voted to cancel $20 billion in pending arms sales to Israel that were already authorized by Congress.

As Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, correctly pointed out: "Anyone urging you to ban critical arms to Israel during an existential war is NOT pro-Israel."

It is also shameful that self-proclaimed “Shomer” Chuck Schumer refused to whip votes against this anti-Israel measure.

History will judge the following 18 Democrat US Senators and their apologists harshly:

  • Senator Dick Durbin (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Bernie Sanders (J Street-endorsed)
  • Senator Tim Kaine (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Chris Van Hollen (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Jeff Merkley (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Peter Welch (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Jon Ossoff (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Raphael Warnock (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Chris Murphy (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Tina Smith (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Jeanne Shaheen (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Martin Heinrich (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Elizabeth Warren (J Street-endorsed)
  • Senator Mazie Hirono (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Brian Schatz (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Ed Markey (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Angus King (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)
  • Senator Ben Ray Lujan (J Street-endorsed and JDCA-endorsed)

By contrast, the RJC is proud that Senate Republicans voted in unanimous opposition to this betrayal of Israel and the empowering of the terrorist regime in Tehran.

After the horrors of October 7, 2023, America must continue to support the destruction of Hamas and the restoration of deterrence by backing Israel resolutely as it pursues its sensible and necessary military objectives.

The American people overwhelmingly support Israel in this fight of good versus evil - Senate Democrats would do well to listen.
