RJC Mourns Passing of Betty Sembler

Washington, DC  –– The Republican Jewish Coalition mourns the passing of Betty Sembler, wife of RJC Board of Directors member Mel Sembler. Betty Sembler was an active and beloved member of the RJC family for three decades.

RJC National Chairman Norm Coleman said:

Betty's passing is a great loss to the RJC and to our country. Betty was an unfailingly positive and optimistic force for good, someone who believed that dedicated people could make a difference in the world. Her pioneering work combatting drug abuse saved the lives of many people and prevented much suffering. May her memory be a blessing.

RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said:

When her husband, Mel Sembler, was US Ambassador to Italy and later to Australia, Betty served our country as an ambassador of good will. Her effervescent personality, her smile, and her laugh lit up the room wherever she went. But she was serious when it came to the causes she loved. Her support of Israel, her sincere commitment to improving the lives of her fellow Floridians, and her concern for the security and prosperity of this wonderful country were inspiring. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sembler family in this difficult time.
