RJC Statement on Corker-Cardin Bill

Washington, DC -- Today, the Republican Jewish Coalition released the following statement on the Corker-Cardin bill that passed through the Senate.

RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said:

"The RJC applauds the Senate for passing the Corker-Cardin bill requiring Congressional oversight of any nuclear deal with Iran.   By passing the Corker-Cardin bill the Senate is ensuring that this Iran deal is transparent and Congress has an opportunity to vote on any deal with Iran before the President can waive sanctions. The RJC hopes that the House will promptly pass this legislation and send it to the President for his signature.

Even though President Obama claims that under his watch Iran will never get a nuclear weapon, given his history, this line in the sand means nothing without Congressional oversight.  Congress must hold the President to his word.

At the same time it is troubling that the Iranians are so elated with this agreement.  Those Americans who are worried about a nuclear Iran must remain vigilant as Iran's centrifuges keep spinning and enriching uranium and yet another stage of negotiations is poised to begin."
