Tlaib’s Holocaust Statement Shows Deep-Seated Anti-Semitism, Historical Illiteracy

Last weekend, Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) said the Holocaust gives her “a calming feeling.” This is just one in a long line of anti-Semitic and anti-Israel statements made by Tlaib. Republican Jewish Coalition Executive Director Matt Brooks made the following statement:

Representative Tlaib’s statement comes from a place of deep-seated anti-Zionism. There is no historical justification for believing that the Arabs in British Mandate Palestine did anything to help Jewish victims of the Holocaust. In fact, the record shows that the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem conspired with Hitler and the Arabs in the historical land of Israel and confronted the Jewish inhabitants, and their fellow Holocaust-surviving Jews, with violence and death.

The only reason to ever take a “calming feeling” from reflections on the Holocaust is out of hatred for the Jewish people. Sadly, leading Democrats continue to stand by Tlaib and defend her. The Republican Jewish Coalition is proud to combat anti-Semitism on the far right as well as the progressive left. We call on other Jewish groups on the left to stand up and confront anti-Semitism in their ranks.
